How long does a windshield replacement take?

What happens in that time

The technician gives their name, confirms they are from Skyview Auto Glass, and explains the specific service before starting. The vehicle is pre-scanned, the old glass and trim come off, and the pinch weld is prepared. Before the new windshield is set, the technician checks that the urethane bead is applied correctly — the bead is what seals the glass and holds it to the body. The glass is set, moldings and wipers go back on, and if the vehicle has a forward camera, the static and/or dynamic calibration the manufacturer specifies is done right there, followed by a post-scan. You get a 30-minute safe drive-away time.

Chip and crack repair is shorter

A chip or short crack is repaired with resin injection, usually in under 30 minutes, at the shop or at your location. There is no adhesive cure time, so you can drive away as soon as it is finished.

After you drive away

Urethane keeps hardening after the safe drive-away time. For the first 48 hours, skip the car wash and leave a window cracked slightly. The full aftercare is on our standards page.

Getting on the schedule

Same-day service is available. After you book you get a confirmation text with an estimated arrival time; once the glass is on the truck, a customer service representative calls with the exact ETA. Arrival windows are usually about three hours.
