Illinois law and insurance for windshield repair
Illinois is the clearest of the three states: 625 ILCS 5/12-503(e) says no person shall drive a motor vehicle when the windshield, side or rear windows are in such defective condition or repair as to materially impair the driver's view to the front, side or rear. Section (d) requires working windshield wipers. A crack or a missing side window that impairs your view is a violation on its face.
Insurance: Illinois has no zero-deductible glass law (only Florida, Kentucky and South Carolina require that). Glass damage is covered under comprehensive coverage, subject to your deductible. Many carriers waive the deductible for a chip repair; a replacement is usually subject to it. We bill your insurer directly and file the claim for you.
